CalWORKs Welfare-to-Work is an employment program serving eligible adult recipients of cash aid. The program helps CalWORKs participants find jobs and become self-sufficient. The EDD in Capitola and Watsonville offers MANY services that will be helpful for MANY people. Through the EDD, individuals can access CalJobs and America’s Job Bank, an online listing of available jobs. The EDD offers resume workshops, displaced workers programs and NAFTA programs, a career center that offers technical support, fax machines, etc. Youth Services and Job Searching workshops are also available. A group of volunteers created the Homeless Garden Project in 1990 to provide a place of safety, beauty, and work opportunities for people who were homeless.  Today, the project provides a bounty of activities at the 2.5 acre organic garden, attracting a wide variety of individuals living in Santa Cruz County. The Santa Cruz County Regional Occupational Program (ROP) provides students with the opportunity to acquire career training and technical skills that prepare them for success in a changing workplace and continuing education. ROP, a Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accredited program of the Santa Cruz County Office of Education offered in cooperation with county high school districts and the local business community provides job training for youth 16 and older and adults. ROP works closely with local employers and many classes offer on-the-job training (internship).
